Frequently Asked Questions

Q  What exactly is included in the OJT system?

A  The system is composed of four components:

1.  Four-day Train-the-Trainer course – in which we teach your staff to train your own instructors with the SOJT Trainer Course.

2.  One-day of management training – an optional add-on to the Train-the-Trainer course in which we teach your staff to set and manage your SOJT program.

3.  All necessary materials to teach the course – you'll never have to replace anything.

4.  Instructor Selection Test ® – you can select employees who have the best potential to be excellent trainers.

Q  Do you deliver only the OJT instructor training without the full system?

A  Yes.  Though we normally deliver the four-day Train-the-Trainer course so that our clients can do their own trainer training, we do deliver just the OJT Trainer Course, too.  We recommend a three-day course with a fourth day of on-the-job practice between days one and two, like the schedule shown for the Workshop.  We coach throughout the task analysis during that day, in addition to trainee analysis and additional teaching practice that is done independently.

Q  Can we get a customized OJT instructor course?

A  Yes.  Every OJT instructor course is customized.  While the OJT Trainer Course presents all the skills needed by an OJT instructor, many of our clients prefer to leave out some units, and spend more time on others.  We will modify the basic course to exactly meet your needs.

Q  Can we use the OJT system for mentor training?

A. Yes.  A number of our clients do that.  The primary difference is that mentor training does not require that the instructors be able to perform task analysis, write objectives, or develop and use performance tests.  On the other hand, mentor training involves more trainee analysis and a greater emphasis on communications skills.  Mentoring is primarily used for management training, problem-solving skills, and the like, but it is also a necessary skill for supervisors and managers who want to help employees grow beyond their present positions.  The OJT Trainer Course should be easily modified to teach mentors.

Q  What businesses can use the OJT System?

A  All of them.  It can be used in any industry or type of business.  In fact, in a number of instances, after it was initially used to train OJT instructors for production work, it was used to train OJT instructors for engineering, customer service, sales, and other white-collar jobs in the companies.  It works equally well for all the jobs in any company.

Q  Will I be certified after completing the Train-the-Trainer course?

A  Yes, you can be.  We provide two kinds of certificates--course completion and competency.

Those who are scheduled to become OJT trainers, and participate fully for the first four days, earn a OJT Trainer Course completion certificate. (We help set up your OJT program to use the level 3 evaluation process to certify the OJT trainers' competency after they successfully train employees.)

Those who are scheduled to attend the whole five days, but do not plan to train OJT trainers, would be normally be awarded a completion certificate. And, those who were selected to become Trainer-Trainers, participated all five days, and who we all are confident will teach the OJT Trainer Course well, will be certified to train OJT trainers using Paradigm's content-free methodology.
